Ultrasonic Clad Materials

Reflector from Hole Clad side

This process is used to provide protection against corrosion and wear to prolong the life of the part. It involves bonding two materials together by fusion welding, a carbon steel forging bonded to a non-ferrous nickel, chrome, hastelloy.

To check if complete bonding is achieved, an experienced inspector will test with Longitudinal Waves using a clad reference block (FMC Approved).

If a reflective echo is displayed in the bond fusion zone on the flaw detector screen then a decision will have to be made whether it exceeds the reference level as per the specification.
